Outrage at screening of dying Princess Diana photo

A shocking paparazzi photograph of a dying Princess Diana is to be screened for the first time in a documentary about her fatal crash.

Unlawful Killing, which will be shown at Cannes this week, is backed by the actor Keith Allen and Mohammed Al Fayed, whose son Dodi died with Diana.

The 90-minute film will include a graphic black and white close-up of Diana taken moments after the Mercedes carrying the couple crashed in a Paris underpass.

The distressing image, Diana’s blonde hair and features clearly visible, has never been publicly seen in this country.

It will be shown around the world but not in the UK, prompting Allen to say: ‘Pity, because at a time when the sugar rush of the royal wedding has been sending republicans into a diabetic coma, it could act as a welcome antidote.’

Similar pictures shown to the Diana inquest jury had her face heavily pixelated.

Allen, in a piece for the Guardian newspaper last weekend, said: ‘My “inquest of the inquest” film contains footage of Diana recalling how the royals wanted her consigned to a mental institution, and the coroner repeatedly questioning the sanity of anyone who wondered if the crash was more than an accident.’

He said he asked every major UK broadcaster to commission a TV documentary about the inquest but they all refused.

He said the film was being premiered in Cannes ‘because British lawyers insisted on 87 cuts before any UK release.

'So rather than butcher the film, we’re showing in France, then the U.S., and everywhere except the UK.’

Anything Prince William and Kate Middleton could do, Las Vegas casino billionaire Steve Wynn was trying to do better.

And while his weekend wedding to British sweetheart Andrea Hissom was no Royal occasion, the casino king and his bride clearly did their best to match the event of the year.

With her elaborate lace sleeves and plunging neckline, it was almost as if Hissom had known what Kate was going to wear to her big day and made sure she had an almost identical version.


She even wore a white headpiece similar to that worn by the newly titled Duchess of Cambridge, although Hissom's was unlikely to have been leant to her by the Queen.

While 1,500 guests - from heads of state and European royal families to lords and ladies - filled historic Westminster Abbey, Wynn's wedding was also spectacular.

Donald Trump was among the 500 guests who arrived in Las Vegas earlier in the week for the three-day party. Wynn had told reporters actor and director Clint Eastwood would serve as his best man.

Before the event it was suggested that the wedding could become a $10 million money-spinner for the casino king as the big gamblers rub shoulders with guests like Donald Trump, actors Sylvester Stallone and Hugh Jackman and singers Celine Dion and Garth Brooks.

Wynn's wealthy friends include hotel magnate Sol Kerzner, financier Michael Milken and the investment Blackstone Group's Stephen Schwarzman.

The lavish arrangements prompted guests to dub it 'America's royal wedding.'

'Everybody is getting free rooms, making the cost of the wedding over $1 million. But it's good business,' a source told the New York Post last week.

Guests were flown in for a poolside 'white' party on Friday -- the same day William and Kate wed in London.

The following day, 1,000 guests attended the 'Grand Celebration' in the Encore Ballroom at 7.30 pm planned by High School Musical director Kenny Ortega.

A farewell brunch was then held on Sunday morning.

Wynn's ex-wife, Elaine, the mother of his two children, is reported to have left town and attending financier Warren Buffett's annual Berkshire Hathaway investors' seminar in Omaha.

Last year year she got one of the largest divorce settlements in history -- $741 million in stock in Wynn Resorts.

Wynn met Hissom, in her forties, on the French Riviera in 2008.

They celebrated their love for each other today in a lavish Royal Wedding ceremony at Westminster Abbey and this is the extraordinary cake that they enjoyed at the reception.

Prince William and his bride Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, cut the first slice of the magnificent eight-tiered wedding cake this afternoon as they celebrated their marriage with friends and family.

The confectionery masterpiece covered in cream and white icing and decorated with up to 900 delicate sugar-paste flowers was centre-stage at the Buckingham Palace reception held in the picture gallery.

Ms Cairns, 56, whose confections are sold in Harrods, Selfridges and Waitrose, was contacted by St James's Palace in February and asked if she would make William and Kate's wedding cake.

Speaking at Buckingham Palace after she had put the final touches to the cake, she said: ‘The picture gallery has high ceilings and is an imposing room so I wanted the cake to have presence but not to be imposing and I think it worked.

‘Catherine did not want it to be seven feet tall, she didn't want it to be towering and thin, and I think we succeeded.

The bride wanted elements from the Joseph Lambeth technique of cake decoration, where intricate piping is used to make three dimensional scroll work, leaves, flowers and other adornments.

Kate also gave Ms Cairns detailed instructions for her to include 17 different blooms and foliage for their meaning or symbolism - known as the ‘language of flowers’.

Ms Cairns, who lives in Leicestershire where her factory is based, started her business from her kitchen table and now employs more than 50 people.

She said: ‘I could not believe I finished it in time but we were all really pleased with it. I worked at the palace for two days before the wedding, setting it up with my team.

‘The hardest part was transporting the cakes from Leicestershire to the palace - we were worried they would get damaged - then we had to assemble them.

‘It was tough work but I really enjoyed it. It's been an extraordinary commission.’
